Margaret Green was first married to Rev. Charles Green (c.1710-1765), a medical practitioner and longtime rector of Truro Parish. After her husband's death, Margaret married Dr. William Savage sometime before 24 April 1767. GW and, first, George William, and later, Bryan Fairfax acted as Margaret's trustees, and were responsible for seeing that her annuity of £100 each year was paid by Dr. Savage out of Green’s estate. After the marriage, William assumed control of the Green estate and gave bond to GW and the new trustee, Bryan Fairfax, to pay his wife £100 a year. The couple moved to Ireland in 1768, and GW and Bryan Fairfax had difficulties in making William pay Margaret's annuities. When William later returned to Virginia and abandoned his wife, Margaret lived in poverty in Ireland, and was dependent on the charity of friends.
