GW acquired one half of Woodstock Manor as part of the tract in Montgomery County, Maryland in April 1793. Orginally inherited by Sophia Sprigg Mercer, from her father Robert Sprigg, it was used to help settle the debt owed from her husband's estate, John Mercer.
