John Ballendine (d. 1782) of Prince William County, Va., was an enthusiastic promoter, builder, and operator of a series of mills, ironworks, and canals. He later had a furnace, forge, and saw mills on Occoquan Creek near Colchester, Virginia.
On 19 Dec. 1759 GW paid Ballendine £44.12.3 for 2 tons of bar iron, but he received only 3,556 pounds, leaving a balance of £8.5.7 charged against Ballendine (see Ledger A, 69). GW had a variety of other dealings with Ballendine (see, for instance, Ledger A, 49).
