In September 1765 Sarah Harle, probably the daughter of William Harle (d. 1750) of Fairfax County, went to work for GW at Mount Vernon and remained in his employ at the house for more than two years, until late May 1767 when he gave her an extra month's salary (see Ledger A, 216). Sarah probably worked as a housekeeper.
