Ledger B, 1772 - 1793: pg.120

Credit Side Annotation

Line 35 - At the end of the Virginia Convention of 1774, GW, who had been in attendance, purchased a copy of what is now known Thomas Jefferson's A Summary View of the Rights of British America, which was printed on Clementina Rind’s press soon after the Convention adjourned on 6 August. The work, given its title by Jefferson's friends, consisted in a draft of resolutions which were to serve as instructions for the Virginia delegation of the first Continental Congress during their preparation of an address to King George III. Jefferson's friends not only gave the work its title, but they also had it printed without informing Jefferson, who was unable to attend the Convention due to illness. See Cash Accounts, August 1774, and n.5 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Colonial Series, Volume 10, pages 138-41)]; see also Jefferson Papers, 1:121-37.
