Credit Side Annotation

Line 14 - In the fall of 1789, GW had asked Gouverneur Morris, who was in France at the time on business matters, to procure for him plated ware and other ornaments for a dining table, and to draw upon the London firm of Wakelin Welch & Son, which would extend credit to cover Morris's purchases.  A letter that Wakelin Welch & Son wrote GW on 22 June 1790 indicates, as does the account here, that GW's purchases amounted to £91, which the firm had advanced to Morris. That letter reads in part: "[. . .] Mr Morris drew on us for £91. which is all he says that he may want". See GW to Gouverneur Morris, 13 Oct. 1789, and n.2 to that document [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Presidential Series, Volume 4, pages 176-79)]; Wakelin Welch & Son to GW, 22 June 1790 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Presidential Series, Volume 5, page 548)].
