Beginning in November 1767, Rachel McKeaver was in GW's employ at Mount Vernon as a housekeeper. She worked there for ten months and may have been a replacement for Sarah Harle who had left at the end of May 1767. She may be the woman of that name who was living near the Cacapon River in Hampshire County, Va. (now W.Va.), in October 1767. She may also have been the "Widow McKeaver," who was given ten shillings by GW in April 1756, a few days after her husband Darby McKeaver was killed by Indians (see Ledger A, 29, 273).
