Martha Parke (Patsy) Custis (1756–1773) was the daughter of Martha Dandridge Custis (later Martha Washington) and her first husband, Daniel Parke Custis. Patsy, along with her brother John Parke Custis, moved to Mount Vernon following Martha's marriage to GW in 1759, and GW was officially appointed a guardian of the two children in 1761. GW paid for music and dance lessons for Patsy. He hired John Stadler, who taught Patsy to play the spinet. GW also made payments to Francis Christian, whose dancing classes Patsy attended. Patsy suffered from epilepsy for most of her life, and she died following a seizure in June 1773.
