Line 2 - On 27 April 1788, the same date as this ledger entry, GW wrote John Hopkins, the commissioner of Continental loans for Virginia, enclosing his (GW's) tax bill for his Kanawha and Ohio lands in Greenbrier County, Va. (now W.Va.), as well as eight warrants with which he intended to pay the "specie Tax for the years 1785 & 6", half of which had been issued for items supplied to the Fairfax County militia in 1774. In his letter, GW also inquired into the reasons for his tax obligations to Greenbrier County for tracts lying outside that county.
