Ledger B, 1772 - 1793: pg.274

Credit Side Annotation

Line 5 - Clement Biddle, in a letter of 16 March 1788, informed GW that he paid nine shillings to Philadelphia printer and bookseller Mathew Carey for GW's subscription to the periodical magazine, American Museum, or Repository of Ancient and Modern Fugitive Pieces, Prose and Poetical, edited by Carey. Later that spring, Carey, in a letter that has not been found, apparently advised GW of his need for financial support to continue publication of the work. See Biddle to GW, 16 March 1788, and n.2 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Confederation Series, Volume 6, pages 156-57)]; see also GW to Mathew Carey, 25 June 1788 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Confederation Series, Volume 6, pages 354-55)]; and Carey to GW, 21 April 1789, and n.1 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Presidential Series, Volume 2, page 99)].
