Peter Wagener (1717–1774) migrated to Virginia c.1738 from England and settled in Prince William County, where he practiced law and became county clerk (1742–1752). In 1752 he moved to the clerkship of Fairfax County, which he held until his death. In 1753 he was a founder of the town of Colchester on Occoquan Creek, in Fairfax County. Wagener later commanded a company of rangers during Braddock’s campaign in 1755. Peter Wagener, had a son named Peter Wagener (d. 1798) who also served as clerk of the Fairfax County court.
