John Dyer leased from GW in 1769 lots 13 and 14 in Fauquier and Loudoun counties in Virginia. The lots, which contained a total of 227 acres, were part of the 2,682–acre tract in those counties purchased by GW in 1767 following the settlement of the estate of George Carter (died c.1742), to whom the land had belonged. Dyer was also a tenant of GW's lot no. 7 in Fauquier County, which lease Dyer purchased of William Thompson in 1775, and later sold to John Oliphant (see Ledger B, 73, 139, 153, 293).
