Magnolia (Magnolio) was an Arabian horse which GW had purchased from the John Parke Custis estate for £500. GW frequently offered Magnolio’s services at stud in advertisements in various newspapers, but the horse was apparently an unprofitable investment. In November and early December of 1788 GW and Henry Lee, Jr., worked out an arrangement by which Lee would give GW two tracts of land in Kentucky in exchange for Magnolia. Magnolia was chestnut colored and nearly sixteen hands high.
