Credit Side Annotation
Line 26 - GW owed £259 to Robert Cary & Company after he drew a bill of exchange on the firm in favor of Maryland residents Charles Grahame, William Fitzhugh (1721-1798), and Benjamin Fendall, from whom GW had purchased slaves on 5 Aug. 1761. On 6 Aug. of that year, GW wrote the following postscript to a letter that he had begun writing to Robert Cary & Company on the first of the month: "Since writing the above, I have found occasion to draw a Bill upon you to the amt of £259 Sterg, payable at Sixty days sight to Messrs Chs Graham, Wm Fitzhugh, & Benja. Fendall—It being the Considn Money of Sundry Slaves wch I bought of those Gentn Yesterday—I hope the Bill will meet with due Acceptance" See GW to Robert Cary & Company, 1-6 Aug. 1761 [Rotunda | Founders Online | Print (Colonial Series, Volume 7, pages 61-65)].
