Credit Side Annotation
On 20 Mar. Boston was subjected to “the most terrible Fire that has happened in this Town, or perhaps in any other Part of North-America.” Although there was no loss of life nearly four hundred homes and businesses were destroyed, and estimates of damages went as high as £300,000 sterling. The legislature instructed Gov. Thomas Pownall to send briefs throughout the colonies for contributions for the homeless and for burned-out businesses (Pennsylvania Gazette [Philadelphia], 3 April 1760). [PGWDE]
