Richard Burnet Walker, whose tenure at Mount Vernon began in 1783, was a “House keeper,” or steward. When hired to work at Mount Vernon in 1783, he went by the name of Richard Burnet. While it is unclear as to when exactly his name changed, Washington begins an account with Richard Burnet Walker in August 1786. He continued to use the name Walker through until the end of his employment in February 1789. Richard Burnet Walker seems may have married Ann Alton, daughter of a John Alton, another Washington servant.
